The Video Game Librarian Pick of the Week is Madden NFL 16 (PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One), the latest football simulation from EA Sports. This year’s game focuses on improved passing/receiver controls, but I think football fans are going to love it all the same.

That said, a number of big games were released this week and almost any one of them could have been the Pick of the Week including Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, Until Dawn, Dishonored: Definitive Edition, and Disney Infinity: Star Wars. Those titles, and a few others, are listed right here:

The Video Game Librarian Pick of the Week is LBX: Little Battlers Experience, yet another “teens force tiny creatures to do battle” game from Japan. Developed by Level-5 and published by Nintendo, the 3DS title is based on the popular manga and anime series also created by Level-5. In the game, a group of kids create tiny palm-sized robots that do battle in slightly less-tiny arenas.

The Video Game Librarian Pick of the Week is Toy Soldiers: War Chest (PC, PS4, Xbox One), the third game in Signal’s popular tower defense/strategy series. This time, four fictional toy armies will do battle with iconic characters from He-Man: Masters of the Universe, G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, and Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed II.

The Video Game Librarian Pick of the Week is Rare Replay, a compilation for the Xbox One that covers the extensive history of Rare. As a developer, Rare was at the top of their game in the late 90s, and this collection includes all of their biggest hits (minus the Nintendo-published titles, of course). It’s perfect for anyone looking to relive the glory days of the NES, Super NES, and Nintendo 64.

There’s no Video Game Librarian Pick of the Week this week as I’m pretty unfamiliar with all of these games.

• Lost Dimension is the latest tactical RPG from Atlus. Set to be released for the PS3 and Vita, Lost Dimension asks players to join the ranks of SEALED, “eleven psychics with superhuman abilities,” who are doing battle with The End. But watch out, at least one of those psychics is a traitor!
• Legend of Kay Anniversary resurrects the ten-year-old PS2 game for a new generation of players on the PS4 and Wii U. This new version of the game has received a graphical makeover, but the cat is still kung fu fighting.
• Finally this week, Arc System Works’s latest fighting game, BlazBlue: Chronophantasma Extend, will be released for the Vita.

New Retail Releases
The Video Game Librarian Pick of the Week is Wolfenstein: The Old Blood (PS4 and Xbox One). Originally released as a download-only game back in May, The Old Blood is a budget-priced prequel to last year’s excellent Wolfenstein: The New Order. The game brings protagonist B.J. Blazkowicz back to the frontlines of World War II where he’ll have to do battle with a horde of Nazi Zombies and other mutated monsters.
